Better Foods group has an in-house laboratory that fulfils all Qualitu and Food Safety requirements and standards, conducting daily tests on every batch of flour produced by the group’s different milling facilities as well as the final product.
Cereal Heat
Treatment
Better Foods Group holds an innovative technology of heat treatment of cereals and derivatives, namely rice, wheat, maize, bran and wheat germ, which allows the selective modification of the properties of the final product, with the following achievements:
- Product stabilization;
- Reducing enzymatic activities to the point of inactivation;
- Reducing moisture content and microbial load;
- Increase of shelf life;
- Improvement of the organoleptic characteristic.


Experimental bakery
The group also benefits from an in-house experimental bakery that conducts practical tests on the flours produced by the milling facilities.
Every day, hundreds of loaves are baked with the aim of ensuring that only compliant and high-quality products reach our clients.
Certifications
Across the board, Better Foods’ milling facilities have several renowned food certifications, including BRCGS Food Safety, Kosher and Halal.
Germen is the Group’s unit with an exclusive line dedicated to the production of gluten-free flours, and also has BRCGS Gluten-Free certification and the seal of the Portuguese Celiac Association. At the same time, it has a production line for wheat flour obtained from cereals from the Alentejo region, developed in partnership with the National Association of Producers of Protein Crops, Oilseed and Cereals (ANPOC) and certified by CERTIS.
Ceres is also certified by CERTIS for the marketing and distribution of organic flours.
